“Will India create a phone like this?”

Posted by Gautam Bhatia on August 9th, 2007
Just the other day there was an article saying that Nokia has chosen India as the location for the first in a series of satellite design studios across the world i.e they would be having Indians suggest designs for future Nokia handsets.

Established via a two year partnership with the Srishti School of Art, Design and Technology in Bangalore, the design centre will give Nokia designers and India’s talented youth the opportunity to work together on new design ideas for India and the global markets.

coming back to the subject, an avid WATBlog reader (Siddhesh Gawde from pune) had recently given us an article on Nokia’s concept phone.
Although this news is certainly not the latest but its just one of those that you cant ignore.

Yes it’s a cell phone . at first it looks a lot like a strap-on bracelet. after that the first words i said were “Wow!! that’s Hot”

The Nokia 888 is the future of mobile. Its not just the looks that are cool even the features seem to be pretty cool.

So what all will the cell phone do?

Hummm.. because it’s a concept phone it can do about anything you want it to.
The bracelet-like 888 is envisioned to use a liquid battery,
feature speech recognition, a flexible touch screen, and a touch sensitive body cover.
including an alarm clock, PDA, GPS, phone, push email receiver, digital wallet other than the "liquid battery," (source)
Due to it’s artificial intelligence, it can sense your touch and adapt accordingly. E-motions’ are the electronic motions that can be shared between the Nokia 888 users. You can send and receive forms by this function. For instance, you can send a dancing figure while inviting your friend to the party, or a heart shape to your girlfriend (source - avid watblog reader)

heres a cool video of the Nokia 888 showings its features.

The piece is designed by “Tamer Nakisci”, who has already won “The Nokia Benelux Design Awards”

Huh!! And you thought the IPhone was cool… i guess this phone has everything one could ask for. shape looks, design, features, but will it be the phone of tomorrow or will apple and the other players come out with something more rocking.

Comin back to the Title "Will India create a phone like this?" now considering that Nokia has setup its design studio in India.

do let us know your thoughts

p.s. i guess we should change our current would you buy the iPhone poll to the would you buy the Nokia 888

We would like to thank Siddesh an avid watblog reader for the nokia 888 article he sent us

More Swiping Across the Touchscreen With Neonode N2

Ever since the Apple iPhone hit the market, just about every touchscreen-equipped mobile phone has been compared to the Jesus Phone of Cupertino. It's an unfortunate comparison for many handsets, because they may not necessarily be trying to achieve the same thing as the iPhone nor do they necessarily resemble the iPhone in any way. Well, tough nookies for them, because the comparisons are inevitable.

The latest handset to be compared to the Apple iPhone is the Neonode N2 touchscreen mobile phone. Set to hit the US market some time this year, the Swedish-manufactured cell phone features the company's patented "neno user interface and zForce optical touch screen technology." This means that it will recognize "sweeping and tapping signals on the screen" and it doesn't need a stylus. Yes, that sounds like the iPhone (and the HTC Touch), I know.

The Neonode N2 is not a new phone, because it has been available in Europe since Q3 2007, but this will be the first time that the handset is officially made available in the United States. Neonode plans on displaying the phone at CES next week. Maybe they're reveal pricing and carrier information at that time too.
